Mutaz Essa Barshim Injured and Jenn Suhr Victim of Missing PolesBy Adam Kopet Mutaz Essa Barshim has withdrawn from the high jump at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting, according to Alfonz Juck and trackalerts.com. Barshim hurt his ankle while making attempts at a world record Monday in the high jump at the Gyulai István Memorial in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. He equaled his world best of 7-10.50 (2.40m) and then raised the bar to 8-0.75 (2.46m). He turned his ankle on his final attempt. Barshim will likely rest for several weeks before returning to action. Jenn Suhr appears unlikely to compete Thursday in the pole vault after her poles went missing in transit to Switzerland, according to a Facebook post from her husband and coach, Rick Suhr. This is the first trip to Europe Suhr has made for competition in four years. According to the Facebook post, it seems unlikely her poles will be found in time. Suhr and her husband are exploring the possibility of borrowing poles, but that has proved difficult thus far. More news |
