Shelby Houlihan to Face Top Notch Field in Lausanne Diamond League 1,500 Meters

By Adam Kopet

Shelby Houlihan's next race will be the Lausanne Diamond League 1,500 meters, according to Bob Ramsak for the IAAF.

For Houlihan, the double USATF Outdoor champion and recent DyeStat Performance of the Week winner, this will be her second Diamond League race of the year. She won the 1,500 at the Prefontaine Classic in a personal-best 3:59.06. At the time, her mark was a world lead. A month later and it is still a top-four time in the world this year.

In Lausanne, Houlihan will face Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay, South Africa's Caster Semenya, Great Britain's Laura Muir, Morocco's Rababe Harafi and Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands.

Tsegay has run the second-fastest time in the world this year, 3:57.64, in her win at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting. In that race, Muir finished second in 3:58.53. Semenya and Harafi also have season's bests under four minutes.

Hassan has not raced since she captured silver and bronze medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships earlier this year in the 3,000 and 1,500, respectively. She does, however, own a 1,500 personal best well under four minutes.
